This was going to be the ultimate test: I was going to the theater with my friend Heather who always notices my makeup and perfume. Would she notice my new Joy Blend Solid Perfume, and if so, would she say, "Girl, you need to drop that perfume?" or would she say, "You smell good."
I got into Heather's car. Before I had even completely planted my butt on the seat, she said, "Mmmm, you smell yummy. What is that?"
I had just received it that day, so I still had the jar in my bag. I showed it to her and she promptly put some on as well. Then we went to the theater smelling like sexy gardenias.
I'm not much of a "nose" and I've never reviewed a perfume before, so bear with me, OK?
Joy Blend Solid perfume consists of gardenias macerated in coconut oil, jojoba oil, macadamia nut oil, shea butter, yellow beeswax, carnauba wax, essential oils of: sandalwood, bergamot, lime, ylang-ylang, vetiver, absolute of jasmine sambac.
That probably gives you a better description than I can. To me it is a heavy, sensuous floral. I've been wearing it now, and it's summer, but I'm always a little nervous that I will attract bees. I am allergic to a lot of perfumes, but this one seems pretty tolerable for such a strong scent.
OK, here I go, I'm going to pretend I'm a real "nose." To ME: the top note is gardenia, with jasmine next, and sniffing my arm after a few hours, I'm smelling sandalwood.
How was that? Nosy enough for you?
The solid perfume is a solid grease that you apply to your pulse points. It melts into your skin, leaving no slimy "after-feel," and it makes you smell good.
My one complaint is that it doesn't last that long on me. I put it on this morning and I can still smell it by mid-afternoon, but it's usually completely gone by the end of the day. Jill Gibbs, the company owner, tells me she will boost the volume of essential oils for the next batch, and I'm wondering if that will make it last longer.
I recommend checking out this fragrance because it smells really good and it's not at all expensive. Mine is in a discontinued 1oz size in a plastic jar (only $10.00, and they still have a few left!) but Jill Gibbs tells me that it will be sold in 1/2 oz violet glass jars priced at about $18.00 - $20.00 USD per jar. Which still isn't very expensive, considering that my 1 oz jar will probably last until the end of time.
