I'm equal opportunity when it comes to most makeup. I'll try just about everything. Drugstore, departmentstore, e-tailer, mail-order - I'll give most things a fair shake. I've really learned over the yearrs that there are some really great products out there at every price point. There are some cult favorite Rimmel products that get a lot of raves, so when I saw a display for the Sexy Curves mascara, I thought, why not give it a shot? It was on sale for 40% off, and there was an additional $1 off coupon on the display. Could I really go wrong?
Actually, I could. Sadness.
I wouldn't go as far as to say that this is a really bad mascara. There just isn't anything very good about it. It didn't really flake, and it didn't really smudge. The mascara was also very soft to the touch, which is nice. So there's a couple of bonuses. But it just didn't deliver on anything it advertised.
The expectation was that the shaped brush (so hard to describe, please see the picture), helps to curl the lashes up, creating the "sexy curves" - I honestly didn't really find that it did anything. I tried this mascara both with and without a lash curler. With a lash curler, I had no additional impact from using the mascara. It didn't give any additional curl or lift. When I used the mascara without curling my lashes first, they were the same stick straight lashes I have naturally.
The black shade I selected wasn't a dark inky black, it was actually rather weakly pigmented, and didn't offer anything in terms of shine or a glossy look. I didn't get any definition or volume using this mascara either. The net result was a very natural effect, that really didn't add any "value" to my overall eye look.
I'm awarding Rimmel Sexy Curves mascara only one flower. Definitely save your $7.50 and find a mascara that meets your needs. This mascara, unfortunately, is just kind of...there.
Rimmel products can be found at most drugstores.
