I added Fresh Magic Wands Mini Mascara Duo with a recent Sephora.com order to make the free shipping level. I'm so glad that I did! I've enjoyed this duo so much I'm formulating my next order to buy another set.
Each mascara is .07 oz according to the package, although Sephora.com lists them as .067 oz each. Whatever, close enough. And they are described on the site as having no sulfates, no synthetic fragrances, no synthetic dyes, and no pthalates. Note for those who care: Supernova does contain parabens, but Firebird does not.
Each tube is adorably decorated like its full-sized counterpart and each has a different wand shape. Firebird has the more common fat, full brush, which makes it tricky not to swipe your eyelid edge but coats lashes quickly and effectively. Supernova has an unusual shape - fatter on the ends, tapering inward toward the middle. I can't say whether this unique shape makes a difference, but Supernova does apply easily without any clumping to speak of.
Each formula is very black and rather wet, i.e., keep fingers away for a few minutes. I typically just apply two coats of Supernova before I rush out the door, but with more time will make the second coat Firebird. My favorite combo is two coats of Supernova by day, then adding a third coat of Firebird by night. Talk about wowza!
Supernova by itself is a volume-enhancing formula I really like, and then to add lengthening Firebird makes my lashes appear even more...'polished' is the best word. They do seem longer and more defined. I rarely need to use my lash comb afterward, which is a HUGE bonus to me. Using these together is really the way to go if you have time but, obviously, separately works fine, as well. I just don't see quite the same oomph as when they're used together.
My only complaint is that I get some smudging with these at times - but not flaking, to be clear. They don't always smudge and just a little bit when they do, so I detract just one flower. I have normal-to-dry skin and I never apply these to my lower lashes. So beware oiler skin types who like mascara on lower lashes: these could be a mess for you.
