One of most exciting products to hit drugstore markets in quite awhile are gel and cream eye liners. Previously, similar pot eye liners were only available in higher end brands or online, but quality versions are now easily accessible at any drugstore. Physician's Formula upped the ante by launching trios of gel cream liners in shades that are seldom seen at this pricepoint. There are four trios available, one each for blue, green, brown, and hazel eyes. The eyeliners follow along the marketing pattern of Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips eyeshadow palettes which are meant to enhance particular eye colors. Of course one can follow the prescribed look or mix and match to her heart's content.
I purchased Green Eyes which contains three small unnamed pots of liners in what appeared to be violet, green and black. Each of the individual pots is 2 g., about the size of a Stila mini smudge pot. The pots can also be pulled apart for individual use.
Shade breakdown and comparisons:
The violet purple shade has red undertones. It is much warmer than Clinique Violet Luxe and slightly more red than Wet 'n Wild purple #887 or MAC Macroviolet. This one applies on the sheer side.
The green shade is a matte, grassy green, an unusual color in drugstore ranges. It is quite a bit lighter than Bobbi Brown Ivy Shimmer Ink and darker than Stila Smudge Pot in Jade, but without Jade's shimmer.
The blackish shade has a glint of green microglitter which isn't really visible until the light hits it or you apply several coats. Compared to Stila Smudge Pot in black, this shade looks like a very dark greenish black.
Here's some of the copy from PF's website:
"Unique gel cream formula glides-on effortlessly and smoothly while providing the definition of a liquid eyeliner. Long-wearing, water-resistant and smudge-resistant formula provides 24-Hour definition. Layer the shades together for endless custom looks. For a more defined result, apply along lower lash line as well.
Hypoallergenic. Dermatologist Approved. Fragrance Free. Paraben Free. Safe for Sensitive Eyes and Contact Lens Wearers."
My eyelids aren't especially oily and I don't usually have a problem with gel liners transferring. I didn't apply these to the waterline, so I can't comment on their lasting qualities for this purpose. I do have very sensitive eyes and happily these didn't bother me.
The liner does glide on smoothly and easily. Like most products of this type, the cream is smudgeable and moveable until it sets and then it locks down until it's removed. The color saturation is about medium and it's easy to build up depth of color by retracing the liner. The greenish black has the most opacity of the three shades in this trio. I used my own eyeliner brush, but the included "Pro-Eyeliner Brush" is functional for those who prefer a medium width line. All of the liners stayed all day on my upper lid without any budging whatsoever. On the bottom lid, I noticed a slight bit of violet smudging around the outer corners of my eyes after a long day. Overall, this is a good product at a very inexpensive price per pot.
I would purchase another color trio.

This product was purchased by me for my personal use. No company underwrote the purchase or influenced this review.
Nice feature of the website: The color selection drop down menu shows the actual picture of the named shade which makes online shopping much easier.
